About
Courtney Washington Joiles is an award winning, Jamaican born fashion designer
and creative. Since launching his eponymous brand, he has become known for a
signature aesthetic with collections hallmarked by flattering continental inspired
design, exceptional quality and meticulous attention to detail. Formally trained at
Pratt Institute and Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Courtney opened
production factories in the United States, China and Ghana before returning to
Jamaica and eventually, creating the iconic ‘pucker’ fabric which vaulted the brand
to international acclaim.
Always focused on creating collections that celebrate femininity, beauty and
timeless style, Courtney ended the brand’s run in luxury boutiques and premier
retail doors including Nordstrom and Dillards, deciding instead to focus on his own
flagship locations which he opened in Manhattan’s famed Garment District and
downtown Brooklyn.
After a pandemic induced hiatus, the brand made a much heralded return,
highlighted by the opening of a boutique on Hancock Street in Brooklyn and the
launch of the website, making the brand globally accessible. Loved for his
uniquely beautiful interpretations of classic silhouettes, some of the world’s most
stylish women including Angela Bassett, Shari Belafonte, Carol Christine, Hilaria
Pounder, Phylicia Rashad and Lynn Whitfield as well as music superstars Angie
Stone and Grammy Award winner Erykah Badu as well as the iconic Judith
Jamison have all been patrons of the House. Next up from this predictably
unpredictable talent, is a push into small run conceptual pieces, exploring new
colors and fabrics for the 2024/25 Season.
